„Just as matter is made out of atoms that combine to form molecules, which in turn make up more complex organisms, Atomic design involves breaking a website down into its basic components and then working up from there to create a sight.”

Stages of Atomic Design

  1. Atoms
  2. Molecules
  3. Organisms
  4. Ecosystems
  5. Pages

Atoms

Atomic elements serve as the foundational building blocks of our interface. These include basic elements like form labels, inputs, buttons etc.

Molecules

Molecules are simple groups of UI elements functioning together as a unit. For example a form label, search input and button can join together to create a search form molecule.

Organisms

Organisms are relatively complex UI components composed of groups of molecules and/or atoms and/or other organisms. These organisms form distinct sections of an interface.

Ecosystems

Templates or ecosystems are page-level objects that plce components into a layout and articulate the design’s underlying content structure.

Pages

Pages are specific instances of templates that show what a UI looks like with real representative content place.
